Abstract

BETWEEN 18 to 28 cases of papillary adenocarcinoma arising in a thyroglossal duct remnant have been reported in the medical and surgical literature. Recently, a case was discovered at the Latter-day Saints Hospital and is herein reported. Report of a Case A 31-year-old white woman (No. 48552) was admitted to the Latter-day Saints Hospital with the chief complaint of a swelling in her neck. She stated that six months prior to this hospitalization, during her seventh month of pregnancy, she noted the onset of a lump in her neck. She described the mass as sensitive but not painful. She had no pressure symptoms. Physical examination was normal for her age with the exception of a midline cervical mass measuring 3 × 3 cm which was cystic in consistency and located midway between the notch of thyroid cartilage and the hyoid bone.
