Abstract

In this paper the author considers three typical cases of wall base damp — where low-level penetrating dampness has caused problems above or below internal floor level. Many refurbished older buildings suffer damp damage as a result of unsatisfactory wall base detailing. Much time and expense is found to have been wasted when an otherwise successful project is seen to suffer early damp damage. The author considers this kind of damp problem much more common than ‘true rising damp’, and invites readers to email him with their own suggestions for remedying the damp.
