Abstract

This book contains translations and reprints of some of the greatest papers on human genetics of the past 63 years. The papers are a curious selection, but complement Peters'<i>Classic Papers in Genetics</i><sup>1</sup>well; the latter, for example, reprints Hardy's contribution and Boyer reprints "Weinberg's part" of the Hardy-Weinberg law. All the papers on cytogenetics in Boyer, with the exception of Mary Lyons' famous article, are also found in M. F. A. Montagu's anthology,<i>Genetic Mechanisms in Human Disease</i>.<sup>2</sup>Garrod's paper on the incidence of alkaptonuria was recently reprinted by H. H. Harris.<sup>3</sup> The papers in the present volume are organized in eight parts: Mathematical Approaches; Immunogenetics; Enzyme Defects; the Hemoglobinopathies; Serum Proteins; Cytogenetics; Mutations, and Historical (Professor Dunn's essay:<i>Cross Currents in the History of Human Genetics</i>). Altogether 33 papers are reprinted, representing the work of 57 authors, including A. O. Weinberg, Lenz, Landsteiner, the Hirschfelds;
