Abstract

AbstractThe light leakage and the color shift of an liquid crystal display (LCD) and especially vertically aligned (VA) panel drastically increases with viewing angle. Particularly for dark images the color gamut gets poorer and the color remarkably shifts with change of viewing angle. In this article, we investigate the impact of local dimming in respect of color gamut and color shift. The results by applying the sorted sector covering (SSC) local dimming algorithm in respect of color gamut and color shift are impressive. Not only the static contrast, but also the color gamut and stability are significantly enhanced, so that the image displayed is much more vivid and colorful.
