Abstract

This paper contains the results of captive model tests with an 8-m model of a 190 000 d.w.t. tanker. The tests were made with HyA's new large amplitude Planar Motion Mechanism and the test programme was designed to provide information on the influence of speed and propeller revolutions on the course stability of the vessel. The rudder effectiveness and the side force and turning moment induced by the propeller at full astern revolutions were also measured.
