Abstract

This dissertation research at the Graduate Programming Education Research belongs line Formative Processes, Valuesand Difference. It was held in private and public schools in the city of Presidente Prudente and aimed to make a contemporary analysis of the school's role in career guidance, in one dimension theory and practice, and to understand to what extent this approach responds to the challenges of modern society and the expectations of students against the professional choice. Interest in the subject is the result of the experience of one ofus who works as a psychologist for nine years in a private school from kindergarten to high school of that city, where he performs work of career guidance to the studentsof2nd and 3rdNohigh school. This experience, in the care of these students, their conflicts were visible; variables that interfere in the choices these teens, their ignorance and unpreparedness for those professions and the labor market. This experiences parked psychologist in an uneasiness around the following question: what social contribution this young, later, as a professional can offer, since your choices are of ten based on impulse, without reflection or even without autonomy? And how schools influence these choices? The labor market is be coming intensely competitive because of the profound changes that have occurred in the economy, social relations, policies and technology. Within this context, the professional choice becomes a very complex process that requires not only a thorough knowledge of specific areas, but mainly of selfknowledge. The definition of this choice coincides with adolescence, which is a period where sociocultural factors are determinative in this age of life, along with the psycho-biological foundation that gives universal features. The practice of vocational guidance in schools must offer students a space to reflect on their professional life projects, preparing them for a conscious and critical insertion into the labor market. The absence of this kind of discussion at school can result in students unprepared for planning that enable their life projects. Once the job has individual and social relevance in people's lives, career guidance needs to be a substantive concern in formal education to help the teen to make a critical and conscious career choice. The teaching-learning process is currently linked to rigid structures, and the action of teaching is reproduced mechanically, theoretical, preventing the development of creativity and thoughtful actions. With the imposition of the market, a reflection of globalization, it is observed that the school only prioritize the production of information for the student to pass the entrance exam, leaving in the background the transmission of values. How young can make a conscious choice if the school gives more emphasis to the informational aspect? If the value system transmitted at school influences on career choice, how young can make an autonomous choice? The need to understand this relationship stems from the concern expressed in this research. The objective of this study is to analyze the role of school today, construction of professional projects for their students. Searching further identify the existence / nonexistence of the practice of vocational guidance in two public and two private schools in the city of Presidente Prudente-SP, analyzing how the processes are given vocational guidance in these schools. Aims to understand, also, to what extent this approach responds to the challenges of modern society and the expectations of students in relation to career choice. This work is based primarily on literature review, developed based on material already prepared constituted. In the survey, we chose to use a qualitative methodology. In the first stage of the research, to identify the presence / absence of the work of professional guidance, there was a survey of data from public and private schools in the city of Presidente Prudente-SP. In a second step, the universe is that the schools of the county, we chose four of them, two of the public and two private, to accomplish the data collection of this study.
