Abstract

Many systemic diseases with psychiatric symptoms are considered rare in the general population but may be under-diagnosed in child and adolescent psychiatry. These conditions are important to know about, as they may lead to pharmacoresistance to psychiatric medication but also benefit from specific management. Through two clinical cases followed by data from the literature on their diagnosis and management, we present two rare immune-mediated disorders to be considered in the presence of obsessive-compulsive disorder or early-onset schizophrenia (respectively PANS – Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome – and SREAT – Steroid Responsive Encephalopathy Associated with Thyroiditis).
