Abstract

The present work aims to present the results of sociolinguistic interviews of four Timorese students with whom we had the opportunity to work during our annual stay in Mindelo, Cape Verde. The interviews were conducted between June and September 2017, with the main focus on the analysis of the linguistic reality in which the informants live in four different municipalities of East Timor. To this end, we focused on the identification of the contexts of use of the languages known by the participants and the factors that determine their linguistic choices, always trying to highlight the situation of the Portuguese language and adding personal opinions about its importance and usefulness as well as about the pluri-/ multilingualism that the informants witness every day.
