Abstract

The training of athletes in an annual cycle is a complex pedagogical process, during which various structural, physiological, mental and adaptive processes take place in athlete‘s body. The modern stage of the development of kayak sport is characterized by the active search and introduction of an increasing number of new methodological tools that increase the effectiveness of the pedagogical impact. However, continuous progress in athletic performance is not possible without a steady increase in the capacity of the body‘s functional systems and physical performance, which are achieved by properly organizing the training process. However, scientific works on the training of young kayakers is not yet sufficient. The structure of training process of sports gymnasium students, combining sports with science, has not been studied in detail. The aim of the work is to analyze the preparation of kayakers studying at sports gymnasium in the annual training cycle, and the change of physical and functional powers of their body. A study of eight kayakers of Panevėžys R. Sargūnas Sports Gymnasium during the annual training cycle was organized in the Sports Research Laboratory of the Vytautas Magnus University Education Academy. The age of the subjects was 16–18 years. During the 2019–2020 training cycle, kayakers‘ survey was conducted 3 times: at the beginning of the preparatory period (November), at the end of the preparatory period (March) and during the competition period (June). The training of the athletes took place according to the athletes‘ training program approved by Panevėžys R. Sargūnas Sports Gymnasium. The physical activity performed by the athletes was recorded in the coaches‘ worksheets and in the athletes‘ diaries.
