Abstract

The work of House, Hanges, Javidan, Dorfman, and Gupta (2004) demonstrated that leadership effectiveness varied by culture; however, the particular influence of cultural characteristics on servant leadership requires additional research. This symposium is designed to address this deficiency by exploring cultural characteristics and their moderating influence on the relationship of servant leadership to personal, organizational, and societal outcomes. The panelists represent many of the most prolific author teams studying servant leadership and their work covers servant leadership research in a range of cultural contexts. Cultural clusters investigated by authors include: Anglo, Confucian, Germanic, Latin European, Middle Eastern, Nordic, and Southeast Asian.
