Abstract
AbstractApproximately 50 years have passed since the television broadcasting started. There have been a number of techniques developed for image & video compression. Techniques developed in 1970s and 1980s were improved and led to current video coding standards. We observed that 20 or 30 years old techniques are finally in use. Then, if we think of a future video coding, it is already at hand. Waveform coding seems al-ready well matured although there will be still improvement. Object-based or model-based coding appeared 15 years ago and they are still immature as a complete coding system. They may be the next generation.KeywordsHuge AmountVideo CodeScale IntegrationMultimedia DataDaily ExperienceThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
