Abstract

Prior to the gating study all patients had fiducial markers placed for treatment alignment. Respiratory gating provided degree of tumor motion throughout the respiratory cycle broken down into ten bins, displacements were recorded in the anterior-posterior (AP), left to right (LR) and superior-inferior (SI) directions. Pancreatic tumors can have significant motion, if respiratory gating is not available at the time of radiation planning we recommend margins of 1.8 cm in SI, 1.0 cm in AP, and 0.6 cm in LR dimensions to account for respiratory motion of tumors.
