Abstract

In the foregoing paper1we noted that hypoglycemia provokes the gastric, pancreatic and biliary secretions, and that hyperglycemia inhibits these. Since hypoglycemia induces humorally an excitatory impulse and hyperglycemia an inhibitory impulse to the secretory center, since from this center the stimulus and the inhibitory impulse are transmitted through the autonomic nervous system to the acting tissue cells, and since this phenomenon plays an important role as a regulatory mechanism in the process of gastric, pancreatic and biliary secretion, we called this phenomenon the humoroneural regulation of the secretion of digestive juices. It is proved that the salivary secretion is excepted from this regulation. Furthermore, in dogs provided with a Thiry-Vella fistula, the secretion of the intestinal juice does not show this regulatory mechanism.
