Abstract
In the rapidly growing field of stem cells, since the Edmonton protocol of pancreatic stem cells (PSCs) developed, scientific efforts concerning the therapeutic role of these cells were focused mainly upon islets β cells regeneration and diabetes management. Different research groups have reported that PSCs differentiate not only in pancreatic cell types, but in a multitude of different cells, including ectodermal cell types. More recently, after the discovery of the similarity between these cells and the skin derived stem cells, their role in skin regeneration turned out to be the new scientific challenge to be conquered.
