Abstract
The implementation of complementary and integrative therapies (CIT) is still under discussion in primary health care scenario globally. Brazil is one of the few countries that offer CIT free of charge through its Unified Healthcare System (SUS). In this context, we aim to describe the frequency and values of consultations in CIT in SUS. This is a descriptive analysis of data from the Ambulatory Information System (SIA/SUS) database during 2017. SIA/SUS is fed by Ambulatory Production Bulletin and Authorization of High Complexity Procedure. For each CIT, frequency and procedure value were obtained according to International Classification of Diseases 10th Revision (ICD10). Costs were expressed in 2017 Brazilian Real (BRL). The database present information on 10 of the 29 CIT offered by SUS. Seven of these 10 procedures were mostly used to treat diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue, with valid proportions ranging from 75.4% to 96.2%. Therapeutic/chronotherapeutic treatment was used to treat injury, poisoning and other consequences of external causes in 83.3% of the cases and Reiki sessions were most often used to treat symptoms, signs and abnormal clinical and laboratory findings, not elsewhere classified (78.9%). Regarding to underreporting of treatment indication, 7 of the 10 procedures had at least 90% of “ICD10 not informed”. Electrostimulation session, acupuncture consultation with cupping therapy/moxibustion and acupuncture consultation with needle placement were treatments with non-zero values, respectively 3.67BRL, 4.13BRL e 0.77BRL. Musculoskeletal system and connective tissue diseases were most frequently treated by complementary and integrative therapy, followed by poisoning and other external causes. Despite the established profile of indications, most procedures presented “ICD10 not informed”, denoting a lack of completeness of this variable. These data highlight the need for greater attention regarding the report of CIT, to better understand the care profile in SUS.
