Abstract

New palynostratigraphic data on the Ireček Formation in Dobroudža Coal Basin, NE Bulgaria, are presented in this paper. 34 samples collected from 4 well sections have been studied. They yielded relatively rich and varied miospore assemblages. Four successive miospore zones have been defined, designated as (a), (b), (c) and (d) in ascending order. These zones correspond to the earlier established VF, NC and TK zones of the Carboniferous in Great Britain and Western Europe. That correlation suggests a late Visean to early Namurian age for the sediments of the Ireček Formation.
