Abstract

Results of palynostratigraphic studies of Upper Carboniferous deposits of the Lower Silesian Coal Basin are presented. It is concluded that deposition of the Upper Carboniferous deposits of this area occurred during the Namurian to Stephanian time interval. The boundaries of particular stages of the Upper Carboniferous are marked by the occurrence and the stratigraphic ranges of some miospore species. Palynological data do not reveal major stratigraphical gaps in the section. The most important miospore species determining the particular palynostratigraphic horizons allow comparisons to be made with miospore zones established for Western Europe.
