Abstract

The present paper gives a stratigraphical synthesis of previous studies by the author concerning the palynology of the Upper Cretaceous of southeastern France and northeastern Spain. The palynostratigraphical scale based on paleontological data allows to propose the following points: (1) a subdivision of the Santonian into three palynological zones; (2) a precise boundary between the Santonian and Campanian; (3) a correlation between the Lower Rognacian of Provence — local facies — and the Upper Maastrichtian of Spain. However, the differences arising between the Maastrichtian palynofloras from southeastern France and northeastern Spain and those from eastern Europe (Carpathians and Hungary) raise biogeographical problems.
