Abstract

Four pollen zones are recognized in the subsurface sequences of upper Quaternary distributed in the coastal plain of Hakata Bay, Fukuoka City, northern Kyushu. These four pollen zones can be correlated to L, RI, RII and RIIIa of TSUKADA and NAKAMURA (TSUKADA, 1967, 1974a, 1974b; NAKAMURA, 1968, 1975a, 1975b) in ascending order. This pollen record reveals the vegetational history from the temperate deciduous forests of late glacial to the climax forests of evergreen broad-leaved trees of the climatic optimum.
