Abstract
Palliative hospice care in Australia is developing as a result of increasing professional interest, fertilized by community and overseas influences. The modern approach in palliative care has been most potent in states without older established terminal care institutions, allowing more freedom and greater pace of development. Little research has been done to date, but teaching responsibilities are being taken seriously by organizations involved. Although it is only in its infancy, palliative care in Australia is establishing a foundation considered to be strong, and enthusiastic responses to future problems will be seen.
