Abstract

This chapter describes the use of chemotherapy and cancer investigational agents as a palliative treatment for patients with advanced cancer. Emphasis is placed particularly on the role of palliative chemotherapy and the dichotomy between clinical trials of cancer investigational therapeutic agents and palliative care. Finally, an in-depth analysis of the role of nurses in supporting patients and families receiving palliative chemotherapy or investigational agents through clinical trials is discussed.
