Abstract
和歌山県立医科大学附属病院緩和ケア病棟は1999年5月, 大学・附属病院の統合移転に伴って新設された. 開設から2004年末までの緩和ケア外来受診患者 (新患数) 411名, 入院患者 (延べ数) 339名, うち60%が院内紹介患者である. 死亡退院患者は249名で, 病院全体の死亡者の約9%である. 当院緩和ケア病棟の特徴は, 院内紹介患者が多いこと, 病床数の割合からみて死亡患者が多いことである. 大学附属病院としての利点は, 症状緩和のために専門的処置を受けられることと, 医学部や保健看護学部学生の卒前・卒後教育を行えることである. 大学附属病院で緩和ケア病棟を運営していくには, 多くの問題点もあるが, 緩和ケアの普及のためにも意義は非常に大きいと考えられる.
