Abstract
Palliative care is increasing around the world, and the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the need for palliative care. The field of palliative care is a dynamic one, with the emergence of new overspecializations. In this short conceptual review, we present the aspects related to the overspecialization in palliative care for cardiovascular diseases and for neurological diseases. We also briefly address the causes that sometimes make palliative care to be neglected. In this article, we also make some references to telemedicine and to the differences between palliative care and hospice care. Finally, to bring another argument for the development and dynamics of palliative care, we present a new symptomatic cough medication. In conclusion, although it remains mainly related to cancer, palliative care also develops for other diseases that cause suffering and death. In medical oncology, all doctors must have notions of palliative care. Continuous palliative research is needed to understand the mechanisms involved in patient’s symptoms and to discover more effective treatments.
