Abstract
AbstractA facile and unusual palladium catalyzed synthesis of 2‐aryl and 2,7‐diheteroaryl‐9‐fluorenones via a one‐pot CH‐activation‐coupling‐oxidation of 2‐bromo and 2,7‐dibromofluorenes with heteroaryl esters have been achieved. Plausible mechanism for the formation of title compounds invoking palladium mediated direct arylation followed by methylene oxidation is provided. Significantly, among the synthesized compounds, 2,7‐dithiophene‐9‐fluorenones showed enantiotropic smectic mesophases and also optical emission.
