Abstract

The synthesis and cross-coupling catalysis applications of polyethylene or polypropylene supported palladium complexes (FibreCat) are reviewed with several examples of first and second generation catalysts. The first generation catalysts are Ph3P based systems with various Pd precursors such as Pd(OAc)2, Pd2dba3, Pd(MeCN)2Cl2, Pd(π-allyl)Cl2; while the second generation catalysts are tuned in such a way to incorporate an additional ligand such as t-Bu3P, Q-Phos, dppf, BINAP, IPr-Carbene, etc. The applications of these catalysts in aryl bromide and aryl chloride Suzuki coupling with low metal leaching are reviewed. Applications in Heck and Suzuki coupling involving relatively less challenging aryl halides using Pd-SMOPEX-111 is also reviewed.
