Abstract

In an article published in The Botanical Review in 1938 (4) the present author described the preservation, classification, structure and affinities of the seeds of Paleozoic plants. The present paper incorporates some literature on seeds that was not included in the previous one, and an effort is made to review and appraise those investigations that have been reported since 1938. The treatment is not as thorough and complete as might be desired because many of the European publications since 1939 are not yet available, and the contents of some of the latest seed literature is known to the author only through summaries and reviews.
