Abstract
The education on Paleontology at Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro presents three distinct stages. In a first phase, in the context of the Universidade do Brazil, it was developed exclusively in the Faculdade Nacional de Filosofia. In 1965, with the fusion of the Geology Course, established by CAGE in 1958, to the Universidade do Brazil, there is the beginning of a new stage, in which widen the number of professionals researching and teaching paleontological topics, and also the number of disciplines related to this science. In 1969, due the establishment of the Graduate Programme in Paleontology-Stratigraphy of the Geosciences Institute, a third phase is recognized, characterized by the large plurality in the researches and education on paleontological subjects. In this study is present the history of the education on Paleontology at Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, as well as the scientists that collaborated to the undergraduate and graduate of geoscientists and paleontologists in this institution.

Summary
O ensino de Paleontologia na Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, apresenta três momentos distintos. No contexto da Universidade do Brasil, era ministrado exclusivamente na Faculdade Nacional de Filosofia até o ano de 1965. Com a incorporação do Curso de Geologia, criado pela CAGE, à Universidade do Brasil, iniciase uma segunda fase, na qual se amplia o número de profissionais atuantes em Paleontologia, bem como o número de disciplinas relacionadas à esta ciência. E por último, com a Reforma Universitária de 1967 e integração ao Instituto de Geociências, transformouse numa unidade de grande pluralidade nas ações de ensino e pesquisa, aspecto reforçado pela implantação do setor de Paleontologia-Estratigrafia, em 1969, no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Geologia
