Abstract

Two oppositely directed secondary directions of magnetization were isolated from some of the dikes in the Esh El Mellaha Range. Radiometric and paleomagnetic age considerations suggest that these were acquired during an interval of low-grade metamorphism in late Cambrian time (approx. 530 m.y.). The paleopole position for the acidic dikes (three sites) is 87.3N 25.9E dp 9.6, dm 14.5, for the intermediate dikes (eight sites) 81.6N 120.8E dp 3.3 dm 5.2 and for the basic dikes (11 sites) 82.7N 86.5W dp 5.6 dm 9.1.
