Palais–Smale condition and global attractor for gradient system

Abstract

The existence and structure of a global attractor for the gradient system d u / d t = − ∇ f ( u ) are proved by assuming that f satisfies the Palais–Smale condition, where u ∈ X , X is a Hilbert space, f is a real functional on X .
