Abstract

From a study on the mortality in the Veio's Iron Age population performed on the basis of human dental remains coming from the Villanovian necropolis called “Quattro Fontanili”, it has been found that infantile mortality had a great incidence in the overall mortality in the case of the Veio's Villanovians. On the contrary, the percentage (6·67) of individuals who died between 13 and 21 years seems to be very low. 46·66% of the population reached the age of 21 and only a minority (14·82%) reached over 40 years. To reach the age of 60 years was a really unusual winning-post (1·48%) for the Veio's Iron Age inhabitants.
