Abstract

An analytical form for the pair distribution function of colloidal suspensions of charges polystyrene latex microspheres in the diluted limit is presented. The expression is obtained from the Fourier transform of a polynomial fit to the temperature coefficient of the conventional light scattering structure factor and does not require details of the interaction potential between the colloidal particles. The given approximation may be extremely useful in the case of sterically stabilized colloids where the pair potential is completely unknown. However, it is tested by comparison with Monte Carlo simulation results for the structure and equation of state of low-density dispersion of particles interacting through a screened Coulomb potential.
