Abstract

The thermodynamic entropies of liquid 3d transition metals are well explained by the statistical theory of entropy which has recently been rederived by Wallace, and amended by Baranyai and Evans . The pair correlation entropy is computed from measured pair correlation functions, while the triplet correlation entropy is estimated by measured structure factors with the help of the one-component plasma model. The triplet correlation entropy is not small enough to be neglected for the 3d transition metals near the melting point. The details of the entropy arising from the various sources are presented.
