Abstract

A study was made to determine the clinical diagnostic features of asymptomatic or painless pulpitis, and to correlate them with histopathologic findings. Objective clinical tests were performed on 47 carious human teeth suspected of having exposed and inflamed pulps, and serial sections were studied microscopically to determine the existence of painless pulpitis. Possible relationship between the objective clinical findings and pulpal histopathoses was studied. Some degree of pulpitis was detected microscopically in 27 of the 47 teeth and clinical suspicion was confirmed in the majority of instances.
