Abstract

Painful legs and moving toes (PLMT) syndrome is a rare movement disorder described as pain in the lower limbs with spontaneous movements of the toes or feet [ [1] Alvarez M.V. Driver-Dunckley E.E. Caviness J.N. Adler C.H. Evidente V.G. Case series of painful legs and moving toes: clinical and electrophysiologic observations. Mov Disord. 2008; 23: 2062-2066 Crossref PubMed Scopus (44) Google Scholar ]. The etiology is varied and includes: nerve root lesions, peripheral trauma, neuropathy, Wilson disease, Hashimoto’s disease, myelitis and spinal cord compression, radiotherapy, lumbar epidural block and several drugs [ 1 Alvarez M.V. Driver-Dunckley E.E. Caviness J.N. Adler C.H. Evidente V.G. Case series of painful legs and moving toes: clinical and electrophysiologic observations. Mov Disord. 2008; 23: 2062-2066 Crossref PubMed Scopus (44) Google Scholar , 2 Bermejo P.E. Cruz A. Syndrome painful legs and moving toes. Rev Clin Esp. 2007; 207: 246-248 Crossref PubMed Scopus (5) Google Scholar ]; however, in most cases, it is idiopathic [ [3] Bermejo P.E. Zabala J.A. “Painless legs and moving toes” syndrome due to spinal cord compression. Eur Spine J. 2008; 17: S294-S295 Crossref PubMed Scopus (15) Google Scholar ]. Painless variants have been described in the lower extremities (painless leg and moving toes) and in the upper extremities a syndrome both with and without (painful or painless hands and moving fingers) [ 1 Alvarez M.V. Driver-Dunckley E.E. Caviness J.N. Adler C.H. Evidente V.G. Case series of painful legs and moving toes: clinical and electrophysiologic observations. Mov Disord. 2008; 23: 2062-2066 Crossref PubMed Scopus (44) Google Scholar , 2 Bermejo P.E. Cruz A. Syndrome painful legs and moving toes.
