Abstract
Purpose: Persistent pain affects more than two-fifths of the UK population meaning more than 28 million adults are living with pain that has lasted for more than three months. Given the complex interactions between pain, mental health and the difficulties of communication and co-morbidities in people with learning disabilities, it is understood that a lot of clients seen in Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW) Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Secure Care Services will have experienced or be experiencing persistent pain.
