Abstract

Pain abdomen in the children in the tropics is an intriguing problem. In the tropical region, pain abdomen in children harbinger physiological conditions like infantile colic to life-threatening pancreatitis. Ambiguous presentations and nonverbal communications in these children make decision-making challenging. For timely diagnosis, an index of suspicion is a must. In the absence of pathognomonic features of underlying conditions, the repeated examination is mandatory. Early treatment will prevent many catastrophes in these children. This review will focus on different disease conditions in the tropics which present as pain abdomen in the children. Newer modality in investigation and paradigm shift in the management of some conditions will be highlighted.
