Abstract

Abstract Although a great deal of Tex has been presented already, only a very small amount has been directed towards the handling of fairly ordinary text. Even the most esoteric mathematics usually requires the ‘glue’ of words to hold it together. In this chapter, some of the tools and techniques available will be discussed. Text looks deceptively simple. It is probably considerably more difficult to format text than mathematics. The range of possibilities for text is so much greater. Examination of a couple of non-technical books will probably yield more variation in typesetting than com parable technical (especially mathematical) books.
