Abstract
A new book has crossed the ocean to take its place with the general pediatric hematology texts. By American standards, it is extraordinarily concise—only 411 pages. With the exception of one chapter devoted to leukemia and related disorders (ie, oncology), the text is limited to hematology. The clinical descriptions of the hematologic disorders are excellent, and single authorship eliminates the redundancy found in some multiauthored texts. There is good correlation with the basic pathophysiology and developmental aspects of pediatric hematology. The judicious use of line drawings, charts, and tables augments the text and provides sound organizational framework. The black-and-white photomicrographs are of good quality and interspersed appropriately with the textual discussions. Most of the abbreviations are those that are well accepted, so the reader picking up a particular section does not have to go back to the beginning to understand a particular subsection. The text is divided into 20 chapters
