Abstract

The objective of this paper is to represent outcome measures for our caseload of 162 children. These measures include speech intelligibility rating (SIR), categories of auditory performance (CAP) and educational placements. The caseload was divided into three categories: those with no additional difficulties switched on under 2 years old, no additional difficulties switched on over 2 years, and those with complex needs. The children were rated on their CAP, SIR and educational placement, pre-implant and after each period of formal assessment, according to our assessment and review protocol. Each child's educational placement is monitored and recorded.General trends from our outcomes show that children who are implanted under the age of 2 achieve higher CAP and SIR scores at a faster rate than those implanted after the age of 2, in line with published research. We also report our outcomes for children with complex needs, an area under reported in the literature. The majority of children on our programme attend Hearing-Impaired Units attached to mainstream schools.
