Abstract
AbstractIn this study, we investigated a method for the usage of the dielectric materials with a small dielectric constant in the front dielectric layer of AC‐PDP without the increase of the firing voltage. The firing voltages according to the dielectric constant of the front dielectric layer are calculated quantitatively. The results show the well‐known trend that the firing voltage increases as the dielectric constant becomes small. However, it was newly found that the increase of the firing voltage is caused by the shorten lengths of the discharge paths rather than by the weakened strength of the electric field. So we devised a new structure which can make the discharge path longer. The calculation result shows that the firing voltage of the two‐layer case with a higher dielectric constant materials (ε=12) at the low position and a smaller dielectric constant materials (ε=6) at the upper position is about 10V lower than that of the single layer with dielectric materials of the dielectric constant 6.
