Abstract

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: The use of viral vectors for transfection of human disc chondrocytes has been well documented. However, due to immunological and cell toxicity concerns, nonviral vectors may provide gene delivery to intervertebral disc (IVD) chondrocytes without these associated obstacles. Several studies have been done utilizing nonviral vectors with varying degrees of success.
