Abstract

Craving is a core feature and a key target of investigation in understanding addiction. However, to date, the computational mechanisms underlying craving remain largely unknown. In this study, we developed a novel computational approach to test the hypothesis that momentary drug craving arises from discrepancies between expected and received drug rewards, i.e., drug-related prediction error (PE).
