Abstract

Post-operative complications including bowel obstruction and gastrointestinal leak are difficult to diagnose, especially for surgeons new to bariatric surgery. Early in the learning curve, these complications are more common, making prompt recognition and management even more imperative for those with the least experience. As physical examination and radiographic studies are unreliable, tachycardia and respiratory distress are suggested clinical indicators for urgent re-exploration in this population.
