Abstract

Maltreated youth evidence disruptions in the integrity of the default mode network, which is associated with poorer psychological outcomes. Mindfulness training (MT) improves psychological outcomes in maltreated youth, and neuroimaging studies identify the posterior cingulate cortex (PCC) as the key neural target for MT. This novel study examined the feasibility of training maltreated youth to self-regulate their PCC activity using real-time fMRI neurofeedback (rtfMRI-nf) augmented mindfulness training.
