Abstract

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: Metal implants and devices are frequently used to treat a variety of orthopaedic conditions. During the last decade, dramatic increases in use of metallic implants has fueled concern for metal ion release from these components and what, if any, systemic complications could arise from such trace metal elevations. Limited data exists on the evaluation of systemic titanium (Ti) levels in patients receiving Ti spinal instrumentation.
