Abstract
Introduction: The amino acid glutamine absorbed from the intestinal lumen is the principal fuel for enterocytes. Genes encoding several membrane glutamine transporters, including B0AT1, the gene responsible for impaired amino acid absorption in Hartnup Disorder, have been identified. The purpose of this study was to investigate the expression patterns of the known principal membrane glutamine transporters in the proliferating and differentiating intestinal epithelial Caco-2 cells. Methods: Human intestinal epithelial Caco-2 cells were grown in DMEM and harvested at the following time points: day 1, day 2, day 4, week 1, week 2 and week 3 after plating.
