Abstract

Introduction The polypoid melanoma is considered very aggressive type of melanoma requiring early diagnosis and surgical excision to access favourable survival rate. Methods A case-report describes a giant tumor of the neck-21×15×12 cm-in 54 year old male-evolving for 4 years before diagnosis of melanoma. The tumor infiltrated trapezius and scaleni muscles and supraclavicular lymph nodes. Combined chemotherapy with DTIC, carboplatin and bleomycin reduced the tumor mass and node infiltration. Successive surgical removal and cryotherapy of the base of the tumor gave satisfactory cosmetic result. Results The patient shows no disease progression 48 months after therapy. Conclusion This unusual case of giant polypoid melanoma shows unexpectably long disease free interval. Hovewer, it requires further close follow-up of the patient.
