Abstract

Studies of the neurobiology of depression involve volumetric and cellular changes in the prefrontal cortex (PFC), that likely rely on associated reductions in number and function of PFC astroglia cells in patients with MDD and rodent models of chronic stress. However, the effects of stress on astrocyte morphology and the potential link to behavioural deficits are relatively unknown.
