Abstract
In partnership with six local beauty and barber shops, The University of Illinois at Chicago's Food Stamp Nutrition Education program, The Chicago Partnership for Health Promotion (CPHP) provides unique and exciting nutrition education services. CPHP staff visit six salons each month to train the owners and clients in the basics of healthy eating. They conduct cooking and activity demonstrations and leave educational materials beside the usual gossip magazines. Beauty and barber shops provide an excellent opportunity to reach men and women of all ages in a friendly, familiar, and comfortable environment.
