Abstract

Depression and non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) are related yet distinct phenomena, commonly emerge during adolescence, and represent risk factors for suicide ideation (SI). The amygdala has been implicated in altered threat processing and regulation in individuals with depression and NSSI. Amygdala activation in response to threatening stimuli could represent a potential biomarker to track the course of depression and NSSI in adolescents.
